About Us
BACDYS (Bangladeshi American Community Development and Youth Services) was founded in 2009 by Misba Abdin and became the lead nonprofit organization in the City Line of East Brooklyn, New York. Our goal is to give low-income youth and adults in New York City the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to change their lives for the better, focusing on affordable housing, education, youth programs and community building.
Our Story
1949
Abdul Sattar migrates to the US from Bangladesh in 1949 being one of the first people establishing residency in East New York
After a dispute over a bike, a group of Latino youth sought revenge and mistakenly killed Bangladeshi photojournalist Mizanur Rahman. Two men were arrested however, Misba Aydin resolved tension between the Latinos and Bangleshi community.

Misba Abdin, son of Abdul Sattar establishes the Bangladeshi American Community Development Youth Services organization (BACYDS) to continue his legacy of supporting recently arrived Bengali immigrants.
This makes it one of the first CBOs to specifically meet the needs of NYC’s emerging Bangladeshi population. The organization also receives its 501C3 designation.
BACDYS hosts its first annual multicultural festival where they showcased the cultures richness and diversity of the community. This included various ethnic groups including Puerto Rican, Dominican, Indonesian-Caribbean, and African American. As well as Artstic performances and carnival for the kids.

2013
BACDYS becomes the official community partner for the new Liberty Ave Plaza in Ozone Park, a community space and safe haven for the Bangladeshi community. In 2023, the corner was formally renamed “Little Bangladesh Way”.
Thorobird Companies, a real estate development firm, along with BACDYS was awarded $70 million in 2019 to complete a modular construction development after applying for a Request for Proposals (RFP). This award facilitated the development of a 167 affordable housing units, and designated community space and supportive services for community residents.
